Courtney Shanade Salter, better called Ari Lennox, is an American artist and performer born in Washington, D.C., who was the first female to sign with J. Cole's Dreamville Records record label. In October of 2016 Ari Lennox debuted her debut EP Pho. This was the moment that she received recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It was released in May 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading her music onto the internet back in 2012 after she released her debut mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography In 2013. The year 2014 saw her continue to share her music over the internet including her independently release single Bound. The song was included in Omen's Elephant Eyes as well as on Sweat It Out on July 21, 2015. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew at that time and wanted her to work on Rihanna and Rihanna-related songs.
